Beach / Ocean Wheelchair Request
Seacliff Surf Club’s Beach for All initiative is a valuable program that promotes inclusion and accessibility for all members of the community. With accessible beach mats, four beach-access wheelchairs, and a dedicated support system in place during patrol times throughout summer, the club has created a welcoming and supportive environment for people with disabilities to enjoy the beach.
The Beach for All committee has established clearly defined access areas and continues to provide regular support, ensuring everyone can safely experience the beach, swim, and enjoy the coastline.
Ongoing community feedback is encouraged, helping the program grow and remain responsive to the needs of beachgoers. The continued involvement and support from Seacliff Surf Club reinforce its commitment to making the beach a space that everyone can access and enjoy with confidence and dignity.
Seacliff Beach is proud to be the first beach in South Australia to introduce a beach access mat, allowing people with mobility challenges to reach the water’s edge safely and comfortably.
The mat is available every weekend and public holiday from 1:00pm to 5:00pm during the patrol season, and is located directly in front of the Seacliff Hotel. It extends from the base of the wheelchair ramp down onto the sand, providing a stable pathway for a range of mobility aids.
Walkers, canes, wheelchairs, and strollers are just some of the devices we’ve seen used on the mat, helping individuals and families enjoy the beach together. The mat is well-used and appreciated by the community every time it’s rolled out.
